Initially, when I knew only about the basic topic of this book, I was not only skeptical, but severely uninterested. However, as I was reading through the first couple of pages, my standpoint gradually began to shift. Before I knew it, I was covering some significant ground. The book presents a controversial, political (could also be seen as ethical) topic in India in a novel-type setting, as the overall plot/characters and other aspects work to convey certain perspectives regarding homosexuality. It effectively incorporates an interesting plot along with historical/social facts, consequently giving the reader both an enlightening and enjoyable experience. For those not comfortable with reading material that involves topics revolving around homosexuality, the same as me, I suggest starting the book and giving it a chance. For the more liberal and open minds, this book should instantly connect with you. In either case, the book surely proves itself worthy of multiple readings. This book talks about fixing the section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. The story grip you and keep you turning the pages.
I really like the campaigning part.
Nice book!.I will recommend everyone to read it and get to know the pain and problems which are faced by the people who belong to this society.The characters were very clear and the storyline was very precise.I like the thought process of the author.
Author's knowledge of law and his writing skills about the controversial subject of same sex relationships is very commending. He cleverly incorporates social and economic structure of India, love and suspense, all in one story. He made it an easy story to read and kept it interesting upto the end! It is a hard to put down book! I live in USA and similar controversies exit where gay and lesbian couples can not marry in some states!
Best thing I like about this book is that it presents everybody in a "normal" light.
And no that doesn't mean it glosses over the subject at all. It does deal with it head-on, but it develops the characters just like every other human being - the characters have parents, they have friends and families, they have heartbreaks, they laugh, they cry, they worship, they fear, they challenge.. In other words, the characters are just normal people like you and me.
Gay rights and the whole sexuality thing has become so controversial in the US, I generally try to steer away from reading material remotely related to it. You either get the bible-thumping variety or you get in-your-face-why-aren't-you-gay-too crowd. I was honestly sick of it until I read this book where the subject has been addressed so elegantly with such a fine balance!
I am glad the author has treated this subject in this uniquely Indian way.
