Anna Howard Shaw's autobiography is a must read for suffrage enthusiasts! She is a brilliant story-teller, capturing the reader's attention from the beginning with vivid stories from Ingalls-like prairie living to suffrage histories. Written in 1914 when Shaw was 67 years old, it covers her life from before birth to the time of the book's writing.
For a print-on-demand book, it is attractively bound and very readable, despite the multiple hyphens which apparently in the original were at line breaks, but in this publication fall within the lines. This does sometimes interrupt the reading flow, but never seriously.
I enjoyed the first part of the book while the main character was going up and the trials she and her family endured. The middle part was all 'I', 'I', 'I' and her accomplishments. And I'll admit I did not finish the book. Just a matter of opinion.
I was very disappointed in that only the beginning had to do with Pioneer life, it was a women's fight for woman rights, and religious ministry. I skipped over most of the pages and was bored with most of it,I wanted a book on true Pioneer struggles and life, do two stars for me. Sorry.
I found this a quick and interesting read. The author is engaging and doesn't dwell on anything to long. I enjoyed learning more about this time in History.

A compelling narrative written by a woman born in the 19th century who struggled to become a minister and later a physician. She was also a noted suffragist. You may want to speed through some of the introductory pages about her genealogy, but the rest is fast-paced and lively.
